This weekend will help answer the question!!

Many people dream of running a small Inn or Bed and breakfast. This course is designed to give an in-depth look at what it is like to own and run a Bed and breakfast.  What you should look for when buying a bed and breakfast AND meet B&B owners in Niagara, learn their tricks and secrets and lastly take a tour of various properties that are for sale in the region. Course will be held at the Niagara on the Lake Community Centre, (14 Anderson Lane)

 Itinerary

Friday   arrival, Check-in at your B&B.

7:300pm     Welcome Reception (will be held at a B&B, location will be give upon registration)

- meet with a number of B&B owners on a one on one casual basis

 Saturday

10:00am     Location, Location, Location

 One of the most important elements when choosing to open a B&B is WHERE.  In Canada there are a number of locations which are more attractive to a Bed and breakfast.  The discussion will focus on Ontario.

11:00am     What to look for in buying a B&B

  • What is the best set up for running a B&B
  • How much space does the guests need, where do I live in the house.
  • What do the guests need?
  • How have the guests expectations changed over the past few years.
  • What happens to the furniture, what is the difference between turn key.
  • What about the name, website.

12:00pm     What are the legal issues when buying a Bed and breakfast

Presented by a local lawyer who has been helping people purchase B&Bs for a number of years and the person I went to for assistance to draft the particular clauses in reference to HST and purchasing B&B.

1:30pm     Can I get a mortgage for a Bed and breakfast

12:30         Tips of the Trade

1:30pm    Tour of B&Bs for sale in Niagara on the lake, Niagara falls

 Home ward bound

Cost:  $225 per couple plus HST

includes: Reception, coffee breaks, lunches (2), tour of houses, classes, work book (includes menus)

Not included: Dinner Saturday night, and accommodation.  Accommadation will be arranged at one of the many B&Bs in town, close to the meeting room.  Depending on number of participants will determine the location of classes.

Cancellation:  Most B&B have a 2 week cancellation policy hence we will follow.
