LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!

Niagara on the Lake! Niagara Falls! Niagara Region!

Now I am assuming that you have decided to buy a bed and breakfast, the only question is where. My experience in the hotel industry for 20 years taught me location, location, location. Although there are many great areas in Canada, from a tourism business point of view- non offer what the Niagara region has..Niagara Falls

  • Built in world famous tourist attraction - NIAGARA FALLS. In addition to the falls we have the Shaw Festival, wine region, falls colours and a host of attractions based on the Falls to keep the family or adults busy. We have outdoor activities, cultural, and great food. The Falls brings people from around the world. The other attractions keep the visitors here and more important keep them coming back. Fortunately the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the lake has a new line up every year.  Many people come back every year to see what is happening at the Shaw. The wines change each year with the aging of the vines and the weather.

The average stay at a Bed and breakfast in the Niagara region is 2 nights. If it is the first visit to the area then the normal complaint you will hear is that they did not see everything and need to back. Three and four night stays at Bed and breakfasts are not unusual.

  • Long season. The Niagara region has a tourist season that starts in April and extends into November. The start of the Shaw festival in April and the fall colours keep them here in October. I knew that I needed a longer than the normal 2 months (July & August) to make enough to survive. In my first year, October was my best month.
  • Established Bed and Breakfast industry. You are not alone. There are reservation websites, a bed & Breakfast association and help around the corner.
  • Niagara is 1 and a half hour drive from the GTA. All tourism stats will tell you that 80% of your business will come from within a 3 hour drive. Where else do Torontians go to have a short break? Whether they come for the theater, cycling weekend, a family weekend, casino, or just get away Niagara is always here for them.
